If the traditional arts fail me (lolol), I will look into/go on to fashion design. Wear the frills of my fabric!

Fashion design is interesting, but seriously! That market is crazy. I still don't completely understand why the people who succeed in the fashion market do so well. Some are obvious, but others...
"Who would wear that?!" Ack.

It's like Ellsworth Kelly! He made the atrocity called the "Blue Panel", and he got famous. RAGE.
My question is: How do you critique the first of its kind? It's a perfect, rectangular, medium blue covered canvas!
I'd like to hear what they said.
